As part of its ongoing service improvement programme, Sedgefield Borough Council successfully bid to DWP for funding to extend BECS Calculator to include accurate Pension Credit calculation.
Providing a "before-and-after Pension Credit" split of benefits which shows the effect of claiming Pension Credit on other benefit entitlements, BECS Calculator is a powerful tool for increasing the take-up of Pension Credit.
Sedgefield is using BECS Mobile to take their Benefits service into customers' homes, joint working with local agencies such as CAB to perform an all-in-one "welfare health check".
Tested by systems and assessment teams within The Pension Service, the new Pension Credit calculation is live within Sedgefield and is being readied for rollout to all other BECS local authorities at no cost.
BECS Claims was co-developed in 2005 with Manchester City Council as a DWP National Product funded and supported by the Department for Work and Pensions.
After months of exhaustive testing, we are pleased to announce that Manchester has gone live with BECS Claims. Manchester's aim is to process c. 50% of all new claims via the system.
Manchester expects significant efficiencies to result from the new system, including reduction in follow-up correspondence, reduction in repeat visits and increased claims processing performance.
Working closely with Academy, BECS Claims will be fully integrated with Manchester's core Benefits systems during 2006.
Manchester leads the way and kickstarts the national rollout of BECS Claims, which is gathering pace with local authorities such as South Derbyshire, Wansbeck, Croydon and many others commencing its implementation.
