What is BECS?
  • BECS is a "benefits expert computer system" suite comprising of BECS Calculator, BECS Claims and BECS Mobile.

 

  • BECS Calculator produces accurate benefits calculations and entitlements from simple step-by-step question and answer sessions.  Accessible either Self-Service over the Web, or Assisted by benefits assessors, customer service represenatives or intermediaries.  BECS provides accurate entitlement figures for Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit, Rent Due, Pension Credit and eligibility for a wide range of benefits.  BECS includes SAR, LHA and Scottish rules, making it the only truly comprehensive calculation system for use by customers in the UK.

 

  • BECS Claims is a DWP National Product which includes fully integrated entitlement calculation to deliver an end-to-end electronic claim submission process for your customers and staff.  It streamlines the entire process, reducing the need for correspondence, scanning and re-keying of data.  This drives a number of efficiencies that diminish costs and drive down claim processing times.  BECS Claims is designed to be 100% e-GIF compliant, integrating with all the major benefits, DIP and Document Management systems.  This has been achieved by working with each vendor and their clients, and via Team Netsol's active participation in the Local Government Integraton Practice (aka National Adapters Club).

 

  • BECS Mobile delivers the same power as BECS Claims to your mobile workers and home visitors.  Moreover, document scanning of evidences and an Intervention Visit module for are available for fast, one-shot data capture.  Unlike many solutions, BECS Mobile runs on a wide variety of devices and does not rely on a continuous data connection to synchronise with the back office. 

Easy to use
  • BECS has been designed by expert benefits advisors to provide simple, step-by-step questions written in Plain Language.


  • BECS sessions are accessed through any Web browser, so there is no software to install on the desktop nor any downloads required over the Internet to use it.
Expert

  • BECS use artificial intelligence to ask only the questions that are relevant to an individual's circumstances. Questions are displayed depending on previous answers, so there is no more need to skip irrelevant questions with "N/A". This really simplifies the questioning process, reducing the likelihood of confusion and errors, and cuts down the amount of time to complete a new claim application.


  • BECS uses real knowledge about even the most complex benefits circumstances, such as self-employed claimants (including taxi drivers and childminders), non-dependent adults (joint tenants, lodgers, etc.) and sick leave or maternity leave.


Accurate
  • A team of expert benefits advisers has spent over 4 years creating and refining this knowledge to ensure that BECS gives a 100% accurate calculation result for all circumstances.
Relevant
  • BECS is regularly updated to reflect the latest Government legislation, rates and codings changes. Whereas many other calculators are not updated for many months, BECS is updated and tested in time for go-live dates. This keeps you and your staff up-to-date instantly and ensures that you avoid the headache of overcharges and undercharges.
What If Scenarios
  • Users can quickly display all the questions they have previously answered and either alter them to correct errors or continue the calculation from a previous point. This allows you and your customers to perform "what-if" scenarios and incorporate changing circumstances quickly. This helps your customers to make informed decisions about their circumstances and accelerates the traditionally time-consuming activity of performing multiple calculations by advisers.
Helpful
  • Context sensitive help gives users informative help as they need it in Plain Language, explaining even the most complex terminology in an easy-to-understand manner.


  • Sessions can be saved at any point during the question-and-answer phase. When further information is required, this allows you or your customers to return to the saved session later by entering a password and PIN number. You can even view your customer's session during face-to-face consultations or over the telephone by loading their saved session using their password and PIN number.
Secure
  • BECS is secure. All data is encrypted, so that even over the Internet your customer's information is available only to authorised staff. And as a server-based application, all data is stored in only one secure location - no information resides on the user's computer. This makes BECS suitable for use in public areas such as housing offices and libraries.
Fast
  • Despite the complex number of calculations that BECS has to perform, it is blindingly fast. It runs with "zero processing overhead". This means that calculations are performed in milliseconds, and pages are displayed in the Web browser as fast as normal static Web pages, despite the huge amount of processing that is going on in the background. On a 128Kbps Internet line, BECS can deliver 35,000 end-to-end benefits calculations per month. On a 2Mbps Internet line, BECS can deliver just over a staggering 500,000 full calculations per month.
Tailored to your needs
  • With each deployment of BECS, our team of technical and benefits experts work with you to ensure that all local interpretations of benefits rules are incorporated into your BECS. This might include such areas as Council Tax bands, rent free weeks, War Widows Pension and War Disabled Pension disregards.


  • We work with you to ensure that BECS meets your intranet or Web design guidelines. BECS delivers calculations in your corporate styling, with your branding. As your branding changes, so will BECS with a simple restyling.
Electronic Claims
  • BECS Claims automatically generates a range of valid claim forms and documents using the data entered about a claimant's circumstances and their personal details.  These include:
    • HCTB1 - the nationally accepted claim form (40-page PDF)
    • Claim Sheet - a shorter summary of circumstances and details (HTML & PDF)
    • Evidence Check List - a personalised list of all VF document evidences required to support the claim (PDF)


e-GIF Compliant
  • BECS has been designed as an e-Service with future e-Government services in mind, such as Government Connect. BECS is fully e-GIF compliant and stores all of its data as XML, as well as utilising Web Services.  This enables BECS to interface with benefits systems such as Academy, Northgate/SX3, IBS, Anite and others.  It also allows direct submission of all valid documents into DIP and DMS systems such as Anite Iclipse/At Work, Comino and others.  Additionally, BECS is designed to allow integration with your CRM system using national standards.
